As your State Assemblyman, Mike Benedetto will continue to fight for us and invest in our communities:

Transportation

Mike will continue to push for critical investments in the MTA for urgent track and signal repairs for our subways and will work to increase and improve bus access to Coop City, Country Club and Throggs Neck.  He will continue to push to bring Metro North to Morris Park and he will push for the Tri-Borough Plan, which will allow the use of rail to transport commuters from Coop City to Brooklyn through Queens, bypassing Manhattan. He will also continue to work with DOT on road redesign projects that alleviate traffic congestion and improve street safety.

Education

As Chair of the Education Committee in the NYS Assembly and as a former teacher, Mike has passed landmark legislation for teacher evaluations and has increased funding to local schools.  He will continue to fight for our children and make sure New York State is investing the needed resources into education while also increasing the number of social workers, counselors and other support staff in schools, so students grow into physically and emotionally healthy adults, and educators can focus on teaching.

Housing

This past year in Albany, Mike helped pass the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019, which provided the strongest protections to tenants in the history of our State.  It extended rent regulations and made them permanent, while repealing vacancy decontrol, high-income deregulation, the vacancy bonus and the longevity bonus, making preferential rent the base rent at lease renewals, and reforming rent increases for Major Capital Improvements (MCIs), among many other reforms.  Locally, Mike also fought for tenant protections in Coop City with respect to friendly changes to common charges and allowing seniors to downsize without penalty.  As your State Assemblyman, he will continue to fight for tenants, as well as further preservation of the housing stock in our communities.

Quality of Life

Day to day, Mike will continue to work with all of our neighbors in building good communities – with safe and clean streets, good schools and healthcare options, and rich programming such as our Halloween Parades, Seniors Picnic, and many cultural events.
